At the request of the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Defense Department directed two U.S. C-130 aircraft to move personnel from Juba, the capital of South Sudan, to Nairobi, Kenya.

In addition to more than three dozen new and updated entries, the "Matters of style" chapter has been moved to the front of the publication for ease of use. Iron Fist 2014
Iron Fist 14 is a MARFORPAC-directed bilateral company-level amphibious landing exercise, executed within a Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) environment. U.S. Marines from the 15th MEU, the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF) and members of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) will be participating in the exercise.

Please note all earlier versions of DoDI 5040.07 and DoDI 5040.09 have been rescinded.
